Professional Indemnity Insurance for telecom engineers and consultants

As a professional telecommunications engineer or consultant, you will be working daily with the design, specification, installation and testing of communications systems, equipment, hardware and/or services.

Work can range from straightforward, small domestic installations to large scale commercial projects involving circuitry and complex specifications. You may also be involved in designing and building telecommunications systems or troubleshooting. Typically, if you were the person who designed the system, you will be the one to oversee its set-up and will be in charge of maintenance and upkeep and come up with solutions should problems arise. Hopefully, most of the time your projects will run to plan and on time but we all know that on occasion errors can occur and your clients may look to you to recover any losses.

At Arlington we understand the telecommunications sector and recognise that shortcomings in your work for a client that cannot be reasonably put right could lead to a claim against you. Should you not have PI insurance, the defence and settlement of any claims would need to be met out of your own resources, an expensive and time consuming process.

We are the approved broker to the Institute of Telecommunications Professionals and work closely with them to ensure members get the Professional Indemnity (PI) insurance cover they need at competitive premiums.

What does Professional Indemnity insurance cover?

PI insurance provides cover for the legal costs and expenses involved in defending a claim or allegations made against you, as well as compensation or recourse payable to your client if you are found to be responsible for providing inadequate advice, services or designs that cause your client to suffer a financial loss.

You may find yourself in a dispute with your client or other third parties claiming damages caused by the failure of your services to meet your clients’ expectations, resulting in delays, or concerning the legal standard of care.

Having a PI policy in place allows you to undertake your work in the knowledge that you or your business will be protected should any claims or allegations of negligence be made against you.

How much does Professional Indemnity insurance cost?

The cost of PI insurance depends on a number of variables, such as the type of work you undertake, the location and size of projects you are involved in and the amount of PI cover you’re looking for. As a rough guide, premiums for a telecoms engineer or consultant may start from as little as £15 a month for £250,000 of cover, subject to your business activities.

Why not take a few minutes to get an accurate PI quote from us. We’re offering members of the ITP a 5% discount* off the cost of their first year’s insurance with us, which we’ll pay back as cash after your policy has been in force for three months.
